Hohbach-Lewin provided full design services for this fast-track two-story, 80,000 square foot, steel braced framed office building with adjoining 240,000 square foot tilt-up warehouse. Designs of both super-structures were provided within six weeks in order to meet the owner’s extremely aggressive construction schedule.
This new 30,000 square foot, three story office building includes two levels of subterranean parking. The structural system utilizes concrete fill over metal deck supported by steel framing. The lateral load resisting system is comprised of chevron and two-story “x” special concentric braced frames.
Hohbach-Lewin, Inc. provided structural design services for the build-out of this 50,000 square foot, steel braced-frame office building. Among the building improvements was the incorporation of a column free space on the first level. In order to provide this column free space, it was necessary to remove the first level of an existing five-story, interior wide flange column. Gravity loads were transferred to adjacent columns via the introduction of a story high steel truss between the second and third floors. This truss utilized the existing third floor framing for the top chord of the transfer truss. The project general contractor was San Jose Construction; the steel fabricator was SOS Steel.
Hohbach-Lewin, Inc. provided full structural engineering design services for the build-out of this $80 million office/production facility to enhanced seismic criteria. Structural work included tenant improvements, new roof top HVAC system, production facilities, reconstruction of the second floor and incorporation of a central “eye” feature.
Hohbach-Lewin has prepared structural evaluations for dozens of mid and high rise office buildings located in areas of high seismicity on the west coast. Studies usually require PML/SEL evaluations, seismic lateral force resisting system review analysis and assessment with accompanying seismic retrofit recommendations as appropriate. A dynamic analysis was performed on this structure in order to accurately model the structure’s expected performance when exposed to a suite of ground motions resulting from activity on multiple known faults with varying proximity to the building site.
This new 35,000 square foot, three story medical office building includes a level of subterranean parking and is located adjacent to the Union City BART station. The structural system utilizes concrete fill over metal deck supported by steel framing. The lateral load resisting system is comprised of special steel moment frames.
