Jack London Gateway, Oakland, CA

Hohbach-Lewin project helps low income seniors in Oakland.

The much anticipated Grand Opening of the Jack London Gateway Senior Housing development took place on September 2, 2009 at 989 Brush Street in Oakland. The project brings much needed affordable senior housing rentals to the area, as well as a shopping center, to serve the community.

Located in the Jack London Gateway Plaza shopping center in West Oakland, this 61 unit mixed-use development utilizes 3 levels of light gauge framing supported by a post-tensioned concrete podium. Unique structural features include a future in-line retail building that is partially underneath and at an angle to the principal axes of the new building. As such, the building columns had to be angled and located within the future demising walls of the retail space.

The Green-Point rated building features solar powered common areas, an energy efficiency 15% greater than Title 24 requires, plus low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) interior paint, and flooring.

Founded in 1998, Hohbach-Lewin is one of the most prominent providers of structural engineering consulting services in various market sectors in Northern California and Oregon, with offices in Palo Alto, San Francisco and Eugene.
